Hi, I'm Lisa Marie Wright
I'm a Wiltshire-based ceramic artist creating hand-built ceramics inspired by folklore, nature, storytelling, and the quiet magic found in everyday places.
My Story
Creativity has always been a part of my life. As a child, I loved drawing, and that soon grew into painting after receiving my first set of acrylic paints at the age of 10. I drew and painted my way through school and college, art being the driving force behind who I am. When I began studying Fine Art at Cardiff University, I assumed I would become a great painter.
What I did discover was that university opened a whole new creative world to me. I discovered printmaking and was encouraged by my peers to push beyond the page and explore sculpture. My final degree show combined printmaking, sculptures made from wood, fabric and card, and one of my favourite creations to this day — a three-metre concertina sketchbook displayed vertically.
That final exhibition marked the beginning of my journey into three-dimensional work. Not long afterwards, I discovered clay and quickly realised it brought together everything I loved about making art. Clay allowed me to draw, carve, sculpt, build, and paint within a single medium. It felt like the combination of everything I love, and I've been hooked ever since.

Inspiration
My inspiration has remained remarkably consistent throughout my artistic journey. I have always been fascinated by nature, folklore, stories, and the small details often overlooked in everyday life.
Daisies, birds, ferns, barnacles, coral, and shells all appear throughout my work, often intertwined within the same piece. I love blending reality with imagination, weaving together elements of the natural world with my own stories and imagined places. Much of my work exists somewhere between the familiar and the fantastical, where forest floors meet ocean beds and ordinary objects become part of a larger narrative.
Process
I particularly enjoy creating ceramic wreaths and wall hangings that offer an alternative to traditional 2D wall art. Rather than hanging a picture, I create three-dimensional stories that can become part of a home.
Each piece is individually hand-built, with every leaf, fern, and flower carefully sculpted and carved by hand. I draw into the clay to add texture and character before arranging the elements together like a ceramic collage, allowing each piece to develop its own story.
Glazing is where I feel most expressive. I love working with colour and use it generously throughout my work. Sometimes I take inspiration directly from nature, while other times I create my own colour palettes to capture a particular mood, atmosphere, or sense of wonder. Colour allows me to bring each piece to life and helps shape the stories I want to tell.
My Hope
Through my work, I hope to spark curiosity, wonder, and a deeper connection to nature. Whether it's a ceramic wreath, a sculptural vessel, or a decorative wall piece, I want each creation to feel like a small world waiting just beneath the surface, ready to be explored.
